SOCIETY FOR SOCIAL WORK LEADERSHIP
IN HEALTH CARE

BOARD MEETING
APRIL 23, 2004

Friday, April 23, 2004 Conference Call

Members participating:  Amy Passow, Sharon Winter, Brian Theiler, Bob Miller, Linda Rasmuusen, Nira Fisher and Susan Fadness

  1. The minutes were reviewed and approved.
  2. Treasurer’s Report was given.  There is $5,683.96 in the checkbook.  There were some questions about the last bill submitted by Quality Inn.  Sharon will follow-up with them for clarification.
  3. A discussion about the April 2nd Chapter Meeting ensued.  In order to encourage those members interested in networking with one another about Long Term Care issues in Wisconsin, it was decided that at the next chapter meeting, it would be brought up to the membership about ways to best facilitate ongoing interest and/or advocacy.  George Potaracke, who is the Chair of Long Term Care Team, was identified as a contact person for those members interested in ongoing work on this issue.
  4. The dates of the last two chapter meetings were set for September 17 and November 12.  Susan will check with the Elder Law Center about room availability for those dates.
  5. The June 18th meeting afternoon education program speaker will be Helen Marks Dicks, JD.  She is the director of the Elder Law Center with the Coalition of Wisconsin Aging Groups (CWAG).  She will be speaking on the upcoming Medicare Part B changes and the Benefit Specialist Program.
  6. The ballots for the acceptance of the new by-laws are due by April 29th.  Amy will send out an email reminder if we don’t have enough returned by then.
  7. Amy will be leading the session on Social Workers in Health Care at the Wisconsin NASW Spring Conference on May 20th.  She plans on having a brochure available at that time about our organization and information on the June meeting.
  8. We all agreed that members should be using email and the website for communicating about chapter business, registrations and voting.  Snail mail will only be used for those individuals who do not have email.
  9. It is time to begin getting names submitted for fall elections.  We will need to have a slate for the office of President-Elect, Secretary and one Board Member.  Members to be put on the ballot  are due by September 1st and ballots by November 1st.
  10. Sharon will contact National about criteria for nominating members for The Wisconsin Chapter of Social Work Leadership in Health Care Award.  They are due by September 1st.

NEXT BOARD MEETING IS A CONFERENCE CALL ON WEDNESDAY, JULY 21 BEGINNING AT 2:00 PM.
