Board Meeting Minutes

Friday, January 14, 2005

Attending: Susan Fadness, Nira Fisher, Marie Hornes, Bob Miller, Linda Rasmussen,

Mike St John, Amy Stoll, Gary Vanden Houten, Brian Theiler (excused: Sharon Winter)

1.      Minutes from July 21, 2004 and October 8, 2004 Board meetings now completed.

2.      Treasurer’s report - $ 6,181.78 in the checking account.

3.      Membership renewals – running slow at moment (37 received so far) – reminders will go out with March meeting notice.

4.      Since no response has been received from Russell King (Executive Director of the Wisconsin Homecare Organization) on the invitation to join us as a liaison to our group, Bob Miller will follow with a phone call to him.

5.      Proposed by-law change affecting the timing of elections was approved with only slight modification and will be presented to the membership for approval.

6.      We have not received a response from George Potaracke on our letter to him.

7.      2005 Chapter meeting dates were confirmed for March 4th (Phyllis Brostoff will do a program on Ethics; discussion by Board modified the program to expand it to include case discussions in morning and to allow for more CEU’s to meet state requirements); June 10th, September 9th and December 2nd. Program ideas included having Neil O’Connor share his experiences as a social worker in a war zone (possibly at the September meeting), cultural competence with an emphasis on youth, working with repeat detox patients, career development, swing bed/SNF issues, meeting needs of the uninsured, and “ticket to work” for the disabled. The Board felt that as an organization we should commit to meeting the requirement on Ethics and boundaries every year, and this will be incorporated in future planning.

8.      Board conference call dates were set for noon on April 22nd, July 22nd, and October 7th with a meeting of the incoming Board set for January 13, 2006.

9.      New meeting site: the Board confirmed the new meeting site as the CWAG Training Center. Directions will be included on the program brochure.

10.  Materials are being finalized for submission of our nomination of Neil O’Connor for National Health Care Social Work Leader of the year (Amy to follow up).

11.  Susan and Amy will follow with efforts to have Madison VA social work staff join our group.

12.  Mike St John will have additional promotional membership brochures printed and will distribute them to hospitals and nursing home social work staff.

13.  NASW Lobby Day is scheduled for March 30th, and we are one of the co-sponsors. Issues will include Family Planning Waiver, Mental Health parity, TABOR, same-sex marriage, concealed carry and clergy abuse.

14.  Time was then provided for transition from outgoing Board members/officers to the incoming peers and materials handed over.
