6.0 contact hours were awarded for participation in the morning and afternoon sessions. This provocative and interactive presentation focused on the reality of healthcare and not-for-profit organizations from a perspective of what organizations need and value in today’s environment. The current focus of organizations on business imperatives, outcomes, conflicts over turf, role delineation, and authority threaten social work’s current status. Therefore, the imperative to redesign social work leadership is critical at this juncture. Given the history and culture of social work practice in healthcare and not-for-profit organizations, the time has come to critically assess what is needed to create a new leadership platform and develop the skills, language, and behaviors that will ensure career mobility and effectiveness.
